Valuation

Price targets

Also called: analyst target, consensus, upside

Where analysts at banks and research firms expect a share price to be in about 12 months. The consensus is their average.

Formula

Upside = Consensus target ÷ Price − 1

Worked example

  1. Example plc: price $92, analyst targets from $80 to $130, average $108
  2. $108 ÷ $92 − 1 = +17.4%

Result: +17.4%

How to read it

Targets lean optimistic and often follow the price. The spread between the lowest and highest target shows how much analysts disagree.
