Position in the 52-week range

Also called: 52 week high, 52 week low

Where today's price sits between the lowest and highest prices of the past year.

Formula

Position = (Price − 52-week low) ÷ (52-week high − 52-week low)

Worked example

  1. Price − low = $80.00 − $60.00 = $20.00
  2. High − low = $95.00 − $60.00 = $35.00
  3. Position = $20.00 ÷ $35.00

Result: 57%

How to read it

0% means at the year's low, 100% at the year's high. It describes momentum, not value: a share near its low isn't necessarily cheap.

Worked example uses made-up figures for 'Example plc'
